Mexico City, February 25th, 2019 – Vidanta Foundation, a non-profit organization that promotes the economic and social development of Latin America, in collaboration with the Organization of American States (OAS) and the Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB), call for nominations for the 10th Vidanta Foundation Awards: "Contributions to the reduction of poverty and inequality in Latin America and the Caribbean”
La fecha límite para la recepción de candidaturas será el 31 de julio de 2019 y podrán participar todas aquellas organizaciones no gubernamentales (ONGs), instituciones de asistencia privada, fundaciones, grupos afrodescendientes e indígenas, asociaciones civiles y organismos sin fines de lucro que realicen su obra en América Latina o el Caribe.
The deadline for submissions is July 31st, 2019 and is open to all non-governmental organizations (NGOs), private assistance institutions, foundations, Afro-descendant and indigenous groups, civil associations and non-profit organizations based out of Latin America or the Caribbean, or that perform work in the region.
The submissions will be evaluated based on the impact and value of the work done in accordance with the criteria published in the rules and regulations, which include innovation in the concept or implementation, measurable results, the ability to sustain the work over time and replicate the efforts in other places, and the project’s environmental sustainability. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Vidanta Foundation Awards, a milestone that the Foundation will celebrate by awarding five prizes instead of the usual three, with at least two reserved specially for Mexican Foundations. The prize amounts are as follows:
- First prize: $100,000 USD
- Second prize: $75,000 USD
- Third prize: $50,000 USD
- Fourth prize: $35,000 USD
- Fifth prize: USD 25,000 USD
The jury, chaired by the former President of Uruguay, Dr. Julio María Sanguinetti, is comprised of notable personalities from the public and academic fields. They will announce the winners in September, 2019, and the award ceremony will take place the following October in Mexico City.
President of the Vidanta Foundation, Dr. Roberto Russell said of the Awards, "This year we celebrate with great pride ten consecutive years of a unique initiative, known throughout Latin America and the Caribbean for its magnitude and impact. To date we have granted 30 awards to 30 different organizations that carry out much-needed humanitarian work throughout the region. And I’m proud to announce that this year we will add five more awards and give out a total of $285,000 USD in prizes for 2019."
The Vidanta Foundation Awards was created in 2009 and aims to recognize and support outstanding organizations in Latin America and the Caribbean that work to reduce poverty, inequality and combat discrimination.
So far, eight Mexican institutions have obtained this prestigious award: Desarrollo Autogestionario, A. C.- AUGE (2011); IXIM, A.C. (2013); Unidos por la Montaña, A.C. (2014); Joven es Yucatán (2016); Dignidad y Justicia en el camino, A.C. –FM 4 Paso Libre– (2017); Cinco panes y dos peces A.C. (2017); IDEAS: Información y Diseños Educativos para Acciones Saludables, A.C. (2017) and the Instituto de Liderazgo Simone de Beauvoir (2018).
